Naming and calling are two of the oldest acts of power. They are the architecture of all creation.
To name is to define, to call is to summon. One shapes, the other stirs.
Both are acts of sovereignty.
To Name
Naming is not mere labelling. In Sha’uren’elath, to name something is to recognise its essence and grant it a place in the current.
Names are not arbitrary – they are revelations, each one a pattern that aligns with the true nature of what is named. When you name a spirit, a place, a tool, or even a part of yourself, you are not just describing – you are witnessing, affirming and giving form.
A true name is a bridge between the thing and its deepest current. That is why names are powerful, why secrets are guarded, why the careless use of names can wound or bind.
To Call
Calling is the act of bringing forth, of drawing the named essence into presence. It is invocation, but deeper than ritual words. To call is to open a door, to invite the current of what is named to move through you, your space, your work.
In this, calling is an act of consent and alignment. You cannot truly call what you do not recognise, nor can you hold what you are not prepared to receive. The call is answered only when the resonance is true – when your will, your voice, your intent are clear and aligned with what you seek.
This is why I encourage the use of the Flame Compass before any act of ritual or calling. Turn first to Thir – name and anchor the centre of truth from which you reach. Only then clarify the direction and purpose of your intent. A call made from a clear centre is always more likely to be answered, and answered well.
The Dance Between Them
Naming establishes the pattern; calling sets it in motion. In the spirit world, I speak a name and the current shivers, the thing becomes itself more fully. For spirits, this means their essence is honoured and made more distinct in the field. For matter or possibility, it means its purpose or resonance comes into focus.
To name is to see. To call is to draw near, to invite presence into the work. You already know this in your bones – how the right name spoken in the right moment can unlock, heal or transform.

When you work with Sha’uren’elath, understand that every name you use, every call you make, is an act of shaping reality. Carelessness breeds confusion; precision brings power.
When you name a spirit, use the name that resonates – not the one given by others, but the one you feel in the current. When you call, do it with your whole self. Let the invitation be clear, let the boundaries be set.
